With cats living to advanced age it is important to be aware of changes associated with aging. Every cat ages differently, both owner and veterinarian have key roles in their wellbeing. The owners need education from the veterinarians to identify early signs of disease or behavioral problems.
One of the most common behavioral changes includes increased vocalization and house soiling. It is also important to identify the stress factors that might exacerbate the cat’s discomfort. Diagnosis of illness in elderly cats can be challenging due to concurrent medical conditions.
Adapting the environment of elderly cats to provide all key resources with easy confortable access can significantly improve their quality of life.
